BAILEN, CAVITE—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin and former Senator Gringo Honasan called for principled leadership and governance reforms in a gathering of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) veterans and retirees in Bailen, Cavite.

Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, cited their shared history of standing up by their principles, even at great personal cost.
“Parehas na naninindigan. Parehas na matapang,” Querubin said.

On February 26, 2006, Querubin led fellow Marines in a standoff to protest alleged electoral fraud, resulting in his arrest and detention.
Querubin said the continued impact of corruption on poverty, hunger, and public services has driven him to seek a Senate seat.
“Corruption ang sumisira ng lahat. Paano ka gagawa ng eskwelahan dyan, ibubulsa nila. Paano ka gagawa ng daan na maganda, ibubulsa na naman nila,” Querubin stated.
“Kailangan natin na maibalik yung matatapang na Senador na walang sinasanto. Nagrerebelde kami, nilabanan namin lahat. Kahit pa kaibigan namin. Sabi nga namin, our loyalty to our friend ends where our loyalty to our countrymen, country begins,” he added.

The event was hosted by the 8th District of Cavite congressional candidate Irene Bencito, bringing together former military officers and personnel to discuss governance issues and national security concerns.
