MAKATI CITY—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin proposed the creation of industrial hubs and competitive job opportunities in the provinces to help decongest Metro Manila.

Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, said in a lunch with office workers in Salcedo on Wednesday that the government and private sector should work together to spread development outside urban centers.

“Sana para madecongest natin ang mga urban centers, dapat yung malalaking kumpanya ay magtayo rin ng mga industrial hubs all over the country, doon sa mga kanayunan,” Querubin suggested.

Querubin added that ensuring competitive salaries in provincial areas would prevent workers from migrating to Metro Manila to find decent-paying jobs.

“That way, magkakaroon ng livelihood yung mga kababayan natin doon at hindi sila nagdadagsaan sa mga urban centers,” Querubin said.

Querubin also noted that congestion contributes to traffic problems and the rise of informal settlements, as many workers from the provinces relocate for employment.

“Kasi ang nangyayari dito, bukod sa nagpapalala ng traffic, yung mga informal settlers karamihan naghahanap ng trabaho,” Querubin said.
