MALABON—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin raised concerns about the disparity between literacy rates and actual academic performance, particularly in math, English, and science.
In a statement on Friday, Querubin said he visited Malabon State University to discuss his plans for improving the quality of education in the country.

Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, also pointed to the need for expanding government support for students.

“Gusto ko ho sana na gawing scholar—isang panukalang batas—na lahat ng panganay sa pamilya ay iskolar ng bayan,” he said.
Querubin cited the responsibility many eldest siblings carry in supporting their families.
