MANILA—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin met with members of the Muslim community and barangay officials in Sampaloc, Manila on April 4 to share his platform and discuss concerns affecting families from conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, said much of his military service was spent in war zones across Mindanao, and stressed the importance of peace through good governance.

“Ang gandang lugar niyan [Mindanao]. Sana, sabi ko, kung wala nang gulo, [dadami pa lalo ang] turista na pupunta diyan,” Querubin said.
Querubin explained that peace and security efforts must be supported by professional and disciplined security forces.

“The best antidote to insurgency, violent extremism, and even terrorism, is good governance, aided by disciplined men in uniform,” Querubin said.
“Ngayon, very professional yung mga sundalo’t kapulisan natin,” Querubin added.
