MALABON CITY—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin told military reservists on Sunday that the Philippines must always be prepared for any threat, saying the country’s strategic location makes it a target of interest to other nations.
Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, said that while no one wants war, readiness is essential to deter aggression.

“Pinag-aagawan itong ating strategic location. When push comes to shove... tayo dapat, handa pa rin tayo sa kahit anong eventuality,” Querubin stated.
Querubin explained that a strong reserve force is key to national defense and a central goal of military modernization.

“Kung magkaroon man tayo ng problema, mayroon tayong ROTC na magiging core ng reserve force,” Querubin said.
Querubin welcomed the strong presence of reservists at the event, saying their service reflects patriotism and supports national defense.

“Kaya ako natutuwa na ganito karami ang reservist natin [dito sa Malabon] kasi yan yung kailangan natin kung darating man yung panahon—di natin malaman kung ano mangyayari—but at least, we should always be prepared,” Querubin said.
