MARAWI CITY—Independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin visited Ground Zero in Marawi on March 12, where he inspected the sites of the 2017 Marawi siege, met with local officials, and vowed to support efforts to maintain peace and boost economic development in the area.
Querubin, a retired Marine officer and Medal of Valor awardee, cited unfinished and delayed infrastructure projects as a major issue in the region.
Sa Basilan, [may tinatawag na] longest highway kasi it took so many years to complete the project,” he said.

Querubin stressed the need for strong leadership in the Senate to address these problems.

Querubin also discussed the potential of Lanao Lake as a tourism and economic asset, recounting his conversation with Governor Adiong.

Querubin served as brigade commander of the 1st Marine Brigade in Lanao del Sur. During his visit, he met with Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr., and Mindanao State University (MSU) President Atty. Basari Mapupuno to discuss security, infrastructure, and economic opportunities for the region.

Querubin also sat down with members of the local Muslim community to listen and discuss their concerns.
